We had a staff meeting this past week. We all gather around a few pushed together tables in the Legion bar and the Captain gets the first round in. I'm tired and have a long drive so I just settle for soda and lime.
First item of business "I had an email from Capt. B____ at Detachment this morning. It reads 'OCdt Manto, J is promoted to 2Lt. effective 12 Feb 2012. This is to be carried out as soon as possible.'"
She pulls a set of rank epaulets with the single thick gold braid of a Second Lieutenant out of her jean pocket (we're all in civvies) and hands them across the table.
Wow. Cool. I'm kinda stunned.
"I wanted to do this in front of the cadets next week, but Chris won't be there." Chris being my oldest friend and the one who got me into all this in the first place, wanted to see me promoted.
We'll do it again next week on parade for the cadets, but I am officially a Commissioned Officer now, God help us.
So now the NCMs will be treating me with a barely concealed contempt or maybe even polite condescension, instead of acting like I'm something unfortunate they stepped in.
Congratulations, James. By hallowed military tradition, I believe that means you get to buy me a drink next week.
ReplyDeleteFortunately for you, it's Lent, so I'll settle for a Diet Coke.
Congratulations, Second Lieutenant Manto.
Congratulations! Very well done!
