Promoted!

On the same day that I was getting a reasonably positive 3 month PER for my position in the warehouse orders came down through channels that I was also promoted to Captain.

The next cadet night was going to be in PT gear for sports, so Chris, my bestest bud and CO wanted to hold off the formal promotion until we were in our class 1 uniforms the week after. That unfortunately was cancelled due to freezing rain closing highways so I've had to pin on my own pips and buying the drinks will have to wait until next week.

Pips!
The new slip-ons are quite thin in the system currently. I'll have to wear the old 'bell hop' rank for shirt sleeve order until we can get some more, and I've had to borrow Cadpat Captains slip-ons from my fellow officers so I'm in proper uniform when I go on course this weekend.

Borrowed Captain's rank
Yes, this weekend I'm on off on my first course in a couple of years. After three previous attempts to get on to it, I'm finally taking my Training Officer's Course, so I can learn how to do the job I've been doing for the last three years properly.

  1. Congratulations! A noteworthy achievement indeed. Imagine what you'll be capable of with some actual training! :-)

  2. Congratulations! Glad you got into your course, delays like that seem pretty standard from my friends who are in the forces.

    1. ONe delay was their issue but the next two were mine. Switching jobs last year I didn't want to take a trg LOA while still on contract!
I think the week after I got signed on permanent I put in my app for this course.

  4. Congratulations, how long have you been in? I want to try and join as a CIC officer but am worried my medical check would fail me. It kept me out of the militia in 1994.

    1. Since June 2011. I really pushed through my course as quickly as I could, so I've been promoted fairly quickly too.
I have a friend in the CIC with a heart valve that medically discharged him from the CF and keeps him out of the Reserves and Police, so who knows?

  5. Congrats. You can buy me a drink next time we get together. I'm pretty sure what I pulled out of your beer fridge last weekend was my own, so that doesn't count. :)
